AUTHORITARIAN IDOL 2012

2 0 1 2 . 0 9 . 1 7

4 years ago, Maxx Klaxon brought you AUTHORITARIAN IDOL. Now, the ultimate power game returns...

In a sequence of memorable live shows back in 2008, Maxx hosted a battle between cybernetic avatars for total world control. All the contestants looked suspiciously like certain presidential candidates. And all were doomed to be deleted -- except one.

(Revisit the first episode of AUTHORITARIAN IDOL 2008.)

Now it’s 2012 -- and Maxx is back with a whole new round of infotainment warfare!

AUTHORITARIAN IDOL 2012 will play out over a series of performances across September, October, and November. Each show will feature the electropop of Maxx Klaxon -- plus Maxx’s interactive video interviews with the digital demagogues who are duelling for domination.

The first exciting installment of AUTHORITARIAN IDOL 2012 unfolds this Sunday, September 23, at SPLICE, in NYC’s East Village. The climactic final episode will occur on Monday, November 5 -- the night before the presidential election -- at VVYNL, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Watch this space for full info on all the shows!

Remember: in a world of a billion channels, information is power, but ignorance is strength. Come meet the electronic entities who want your data, your obedience, and your love... and who are fighting to be your next AUTHORITARIAN IDOL.

MAXX KLAXON'S 3DOLATRY PROJECT @ THE SHIFT

2 0 1 0 . 0 8 . 2 6

THE SHIFT is a birthday benefit for innovative Brooklyn art spaces Devotion Gallery and 319 Scholes, including an exhibition, an art auction, performances, and technology workshops.

As part of Friday night's events, Maxx Klaxon will be capturing stereoscopic images for his 3DOLATRY PROJECT portraiture series. Maxx photographs artists, musicians, and other subjects in front of a greenscreen, using a synchronized 2-camera system.

The photos are later composited and manipulated with separately created background elements. The resulting anaglyphs are viewable with Maxx's limited-edition FREEDOM FILTERS, or any standard red/cyan 3D glasses.

The portraits offer captivating, highly stylized reflections of their subjects. At the same time, they expose the paradoxical artifice behind the pursuit of more "realistic" imaging technologies.

Full info on THE SHIFT's featured performers (including Tu, Zach Layton, Bora Yoon, Black Swan, and Dethlab) and artists (including SOFTlab, Benton Bainbridge, Joshue Ott, Bethany Shorb, and Phoenix Perry) is available here.

HALLOWEEN: MAXX PERFORMS NEW SCORE FOR "HÄXAN" @ MONKEYTOWN

2 0 0 9 . 1 0 . 1 6

Maxx Klaxon performs new music at Monkeytown on Halloween!

Maxx is one of 7 artists invited to create an original score for the classic silent film HÄXAN, screening on Saturday, October 31 at Monkeytown in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

HÄXAN, a 1922 Danish/Swedish production, is a dramatized account of the practice -- and persecution -- of witchcraft during the Middle Ages. Its sensationalistic depictions of Satanism, torture, and sexual perversion were so controversial that it was banned in the U.S.

Maxx's contribution to the new soundtrack melds 16th-century Latin choral polyphony with 21st-century electronics.

Here's the full lineup of musicians performing at this special screening:

Murder of Angels (Bryin Dall & Derek Rush)

THE FALL 2008 AUTHORITARIAN IDOL TOUR

2 0 0 8 . 0 8 . 2 7

After many months out of the spotlight, Maxx Klaxon returns with a fresh campaign of multimedia mind control: the Fall 2008 AUTHORITARIAN IDOL Tour.

The tour, kicking off this weekend and spanning five concerts in four northeastern U.S. cities, introduces a powerful new concept in political infotainment.

"AUTHORITARIAN IDOL is a very special reality show," Maxx says. "The time has come for a change of leadership -- and this revolution will be televised."

Each show on the tour will feature a full serving of classic Maxx Klaxon jams, plus the screening of a new 3-minute episode of the AUTHORITARIAN IDOL video series.

The series follows a group of electronic avatars, who compete to become the next Authoritarian Idol.

"Their names will be new... but their faces and voices will be familiar," Maxx promises.

"Think of it as a fusion of 'Hardball,' 'Survivor,' and 'Max Headroom.'"

Audiences will get their chance to help choose the winner. "You will cast an electronic vote, which may or may not be counted," Maxx says. "But remember: if voting really changed anything, it would be illegal."

The climactic show, on October 29, will feature the entire AUTHORITARIAN IDOL series, ending with the shocking finale. "You don't have to wait till November 5 to know who will be our new supreme leader," Maxx says. "We'll have the results a week early."

Four stops on the tour will be part of the NPX / Northeast Power Exchange electronic music series. The complete tour schedule is below:

Maxx Klaxon will DJ this Sunday, June 1, at the Slipper Room on Manhattan's Lower East Side. The occasion: the latest New York City edition of Trampoline Hall, the underground phenomenon that has sold out every show since its 2001 launch.

THURS 1/24: LIVE SOLO SHOW @ THE TANK

2 0 0 8 . 0 1 . 1 7

A triumphant new year to all Klaxon Youth!

2007 saw many victories for the Klaxon revolution. Maxx performed at SXSW and The Knitting Factory, released several remixes, and did some high-profile DJ sets. But 2008 will be even more glorious!

A new Maxx Klaxon CD is on the way. Many more live shows are in the works (including out-of-town dates). And both the CD and the performances will be part of a brand-new concept in Better Mind Control.

The details are still classified, but we can tell you that if you combined MySpace, Robot Wars, the CNN/YouTube presidential debates, and America's favorite TV talent contest, you'd be getting warm.

The world will get its first glimpse of the new Klaxon paradigm next Thursday night, January 24, at The Tank in Tribeca, NYC. Maxx will be performing live -- and for the first time, solo -- at the Mekatronics electronic/experimental music series.

Also on the bill: Vusac, master of electro-rhythmic collage, and The Megadrives, a high-voltage duo from Baltimore. Be there!

MAXX KLAXON PRESENTS AVANT POP A/V

2 0 0 7 . 0 7 . 1 8

Next Friday, July 27, electropop agitator Maxx Klaxon (Popular Front Records, Splice) curates a free night of audiovisual art and pleasure at Monkeytown, Brooklyn's coolest multimedia venue. Here's what's on the agenda...

FIRST: A special presentation of Sergei Eisenstein's BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, the 1925 silent film that is both a powerful propaganda piece and a still-stunning landmark of avant-garde cinema.

In 2005, the Pet Shop Boys composed a new score for POTEMKIN, and performed it at public screenings across Europe with the Dresden Sinfoniker Orchestra. At this event, the 73-minute film will be projected in sync with the new score, on Monkeytown's four giant screens. Not to be missed!

THEN: Against a backdrop of experimental and archival video, Maxx Klaxon spins underground pop by Giorgio Moroder, Franz + Shape, DMX Krew, Simian Mobile Disco, LCD Soundsystem, Chromeo, and others -- plus exclusive unreleased tracks and remixes from his forthcoming EP, COLD PARADISE.

Monkeytown is a restaurant, cinema and bar that functions as a space for video art, short films, feature-length films and documentaries. It also hosts live music, dance, and surround sound installations. Monkeytown serves experimental cuisine and classic dishes from a country that doesn't exist. The laboratory is open.

TOP SECRET KLAXOWEEN SHOW

2 0 0 6 . 1 0 . 1 8

The Maxx Klaxon/Marlene Mars show that was scheduled at a certain Lower East Side bar for this Saturday, October 21, will not be happening as planned.

The show was mysteriously canceled without notice. We suspect a plot between the promoter, the venue, the forces of enemy mind control, and the Commissioner of Baseball.

But the Klaxon Revolution will not be defeated!

A special invite-only show is planned for Saturday, October 28, at a secure, undisclosed location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The exact coordinates will be sent to select members of the Klaxon Youth e-mail list.

Get on the list!

The show will feature Klaxon classics, plus a brand new song that Maxx calls his "global warming party jam"! This will surely be a Klaxoween to remember...

PARANOID STYLE EP NOW ON SALE

2 0 0 5 . 0 8 . 1 7

The long-awaited Maxx Klaxon EP, PARANOID STYLE, is finally here. Order your copy now!

PARANOID STYLE Maxx draws on diverse influences from political satire, to dystopian sci-fi, to classic electro, synthpop, and Miami bass. This collection includes covers of both Leonard Cohen ("First We Take Manhattan") and Iron Maiden ("Die With Your Boots On", widely hailed as the star track on POWERSLAVES, the electro Maiden tribute compilation).

"Italian Ice", a sexy pop homage to Italo disco, quotes from Vivaldi's Winter Concerto. "Here For One Reason" collages samples from Chicks On Speed and Finland's Club Telex Noise Ensemble into a retro robot jam. And there's an updated version of the classic workers' anthem "The Internationale" (plus a clanging remix by Dutch electro fiend Ra-X).

Plenty of deadpan humor and pop theatrics keep things entertaining all the way through. And Maxx's lovely but deadly sidekick and backing vocalist, Zoreta, adds icy-sweet harmonies to complete the mix.

Here's what people are saying about Maxx's music:

"Clips from G.W. Bush's "War on Terror" speech added to the throb of 'Die With Your Boots On' unveil timely wisdom in 20-year-old lyrics." --The Portland Mercury

"Maxx Klaxon's cabaret-esque cover of 'Die With Your Boots On' gets girls to take out the trash, and rub it all over their precious bodies. That's how awesome it is." --Discogs.com

NEW YEAR'S GREETINGS

2 0 0 5 . 0 1 . 0 5

After several months of covert musical and political activity, Maxx Klaxon is back in the public eye, continuing his quest for electropop revolution.

This week, Comrade Klaxon issued the following statement from his bunker in Brooklyn: "The consolidation of one-party rule in the USA creates an excellent climate for my revolutionary music. I look forward to an exciting four years!"

Maxx has been busy lately, remixing his own and others' tracks as well as recording new music. Expect announcements very soon about a Maxx Klaxon track appearing on a new compilation... and about the release of the new Maxx Klaxon EP!

As always, you'll find the latest news at Maxx's site -- now accessible at a new address: http://klaxon.tv.

Maxx's cover of Iron Maiden's "Die With Your Boots On" has won praise around the world. A few of the reviews have been posted on the PRESS page.

"I2K" REMIXES: SOUND OF A NEW REVOLUTION

2 0 0 4 . 0 5 . 0 1

Last fall, Maxx Klaxon unveiled "Internationale 2000", a 21st-century electro version of the classic workers' anthem. On May Day 2004, Comrade Klaxon proudly announced the next phase of the project: the "Internationale 2000" Remix Collection.

Four cutting-edge electro and synthpop acts from Europe and the U.S. will now put their own spin on "I2K". "This is a truly international effort," Klaxon said Saturday from his bunker at Klaxon Laboratories.

"These remixes will take the sound of a new revolution around the world, and unite the entire nu-electro underground!" Klaxon said. "Or maybe not. But at least they'll give the proletariat a good reason to dance."

The "I2K" remixers are: Kompleksi (Finland), DJ Napsugar (Germany),
Ra-X (Netherlands), and Captain Ahab (USA).

A release date for the "Internationale 2000" Remix Collection has not yet been set. For further updates, join the Klaxon Youth mailing list.

KLAXON ON RADIO, VINYL, AND THE WEB

2 0 0 4 . 0 1 . 1 0

2003 was a big year for Maxx Klaxon, but 2004 is looking even bigger. Here's a rundown of recent, current, and upcoming developments...

During November, Maxx's "Die With Your Boots On" was featured on Dutch broadcaster VPRO's 3voor12 radio network, along with other selections from the POWERSLAVES Iron Maiden tribute. Currently you can hear "Die With Your Boots On" on Bushflash Radio at Live365.com.

More recently, Edwin Brienen, the Berlin-based DJ behind VPRO's XTRMNTR show, has been spinning Maxx's "Internationale 2000". Italy's Radio Onda Rossa has also given "Internationale 2000" major support.

Meanwhile, Spain's Star Whores Records is working on "666 vs. 808," a very special 12" release featuring "Die With Your Boots On" and three other cuts from POWERSLAVES. More news on this limited edition vinyl soon!

There's also lots of fresh Klaxon goodness on the web this month. Maxx's own site has been updated, with a full bio on the DATA page, and new pictures on the PHOTOS page. And pHinnweb, Finland's premier electronic music site, has just published Maxx's first major interview of the 21st century!

MAXX RELEASES "INTERNATIONALE 2000"

2 0 0 3 . 1 0 . 1 7

Maxx Klaxon's latest work of agit-pop, "Internationale 2000," is an electro-bass update of a classic radical anthem.

The track's booming rhythm section reflects Maxx's Miami roots. The updated lyrics are delivered by Maxx, with help once again from vocalist Zoreta.

"This is not kitsch, irony, or radical chic," Klaxon said. "The 'Internationale' was once the fight song of the global working class. But these days, the class war is only being fought by the other side.

"The proletariat need to open their eyes and ears, and get their butts in gear. 'Internationale 2000' should help them do all three."

The song is now available from Mixonic, as a B-side to the newly reissued "First We Take Manhattan" single.

The new song, a cover of Iron Maiden's "Die With Your Boots On," will be included on the forthcoming electro tribute to the legendary British metal act, from Holland's Angelmaker Records.

Also featured on the song are female vocalist Zoreta (who contributed spoken-word interludes on Maxx's 2002 release, "First We Take Manhattan") and samples from George W. Bush's 2003 State of the Union address.
